VIVO ENERGY GHANA PARTNERS UNITED WAY GHANA TO COMMEMORATE WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY

VIVO ENERGY GHANA PARTNERS UNITED WAY GHANA TO COMMEMORATE WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY AT LA ENOBAL BASIC SCHOOL. 


 Washing your hands regularly with soap under running water is the best way to get rid of germs and prevent infections and diseases. This common practice also helps to maintain overall health and hygiene in our homes, schools and surroundings. 

Following this, Vivo Energy Ghana and United Way Ghana engaged about 250 pupils from five schools in the LA community namely; LA Enobal Basic School, LA Bethel Presby Primary School, LA Salem School, St. Paul’s Basic School and Labone A&B School on Friday, 5th May, 2023, to commemorate WorldHand HygieneDay2023.

The Vivo Green Champions, a group of employees spearheading green initiatives in the company educated the pupils on hand hygiene, the importance of hand hygiene to the general wellbeing of an individual, and also demonstrated to them proper handwashing techniques.The pupils also engaged in a hand hygiene awareness exercise by going round the schools to paste stickers on the school walls and around the school. This event forms part of the Vivo Energy Environmental Club project activities which is being run in the school to inculcate the habit of good environmental practices among pupils as their contribution to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 - target 12.5 to sustainably reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse and Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Good Health and Well being.  



The school also received a donation of a skip container from Vivo Energy Ghana which will help to promote environmental cleanliness in the school and its environs. Also, about 100 female members of the Vivo Energy Ghana Environment Club which has been established in the school received sanitary towels to promote menstrual hygiene.  


The Corporate Communications Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, Ms Shirley Tony Kum in an address on behalf of the Manager of Vivo Energy, Mr. Kader Maiga expressed the company’s commitment to promoting a clean and healthy environment through education and the provision of hand washing facilities. “ We are pleased to collaborate with United Way Ghana to create awareness and educate the pupils and by extension the La community on the importance of hand hygiene. Through our joint effort, we are today providing hand hygiene education and hand washing facilities to the La Enobal School to inculcate the culture of hand washing in the younger generation”. 


Mr. Felix Kissiedu-Addi, Executive Director of United Way Ghana thanked Vivo Energy Ghana for the partnership and shared United Way Ghana’s commitment to ensuring quality education in communities through guaranteeing the overall health of the beneficiaries. He also urged the school and pupils to continue to promote environmental cleanliness.  “We hope that you will carry this forward and ensure that we have a very safe and clean environment that creates the right ambience to learn and for you to achieve your educational goals”. 


The headteacher of LA Enobal Basic School, Mr. Michael Odonkor applauded Vivo Energy Ghana and United Way Ghana for this initiative and pledged that the school will make good use of all the items which had been  provided to them. 


 World Hand Hygiene Day is celebrated to create awareness on the importance of hand hygiene and to show practical steps to prevent infections and diseases. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Accelerate action together. SAVE LIVES - CLEAN YOUR HANDS”.
