United Way Ghana and Prudential Life Insurance Ghana organize Breast Cancer Awareness for Women and Girls in Chorkor


In commemoration of this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as part of our commitment to promoting community health and wellbeing within the PRU Climate Action Project, United Way Ghana with funding from Prudential Life Insurance Ghana organized a free breast cancer screening and education outreach on the 21st of October at the Church of Pentecost, Chorkor, Accra.This screening which was facilitated by our medical partners, Sonotech Medical and Diagnostic Centre, recorded an impressive turnout of about 150 females, including female students, within the community. As part of the event, Ms. Gifty Edem of Sonotech Medical and Diagnostic Centre, shared valuable insights about breast cancer, the risk factors, and importance of regular screening.During the event, the Head of Marketing and Communications for Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Mr. Frederick Duodu Takyi, reiterated the company's theme for this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, "For Every Life, the Story is Unique; The Journey Matters." He emphasized the importance of knowing one's health status and encouraged everyone to continue sharing awareness within their community.This outreach is Chorkor is part of our goal of building community resilience in Chorkor through various holistic health and wellbeing projects.


United Way Ghana and Cummins Ghana Limited Commissions Refurbished Kurofa Community Library, Ashanti Region


United Way Ghana is proud to have partnered with Cummins Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority to refurbish and stock the Kurofa Community Library in the Ashanti Region, a transformative initiative aimed at improving access to quality learning resources for children and young people.This project underscores the power of collaboration in driving sustainable community impact. Through collective effort, the once-empty space has been turned into a fully functional library, equipped with textbooks and fiction materials for both basic and secondary school learners, creating a safe, inspiring environment where young minds can explore, imagine, and grow.The official handover ceremony brought together several distinguished guests, including:

  • The Chief and Queen of Kurofa
  • The Bishop of Effiduase Diocese
  • Representatives from the Ghana Library Authority – Ashanti Region
  • The Human Resource Personnel of the Ghana Education Service
  • The Founder of the School (Past Bishop of Effiduase Diocese)
  • The Cummins Leader for Africa and the Middle East
  • Teams from Cummins Accra and Kumasi

We extend our deepest appreciation to Cummins Ghana for their unwavering commitment to community development, and to the Kurofa community for their active participation and ownership throughout the process.Together, we have not only built a library — we have built a legacy of learning that will empower generations to come.
